Apple wins the paid search battle, but not just in search volume

Apple won the paid search volume battle last year, according to The Drum.

It’s not hard to believe when you see the social media noise around new releases and see the visible queues outside retailers on launch day. Last week’s article discussed paid search volume and the dominance of Apple related search terms, such as “iphone 7″ and iphone 6s” and how it showed that paid search was a key revenue driver for the technology giant.

However, users aren’t just searching for Apple products more, they feature more heavily in reporting statistics as being the devices most used to access web content.

Reporting is a key service offered at WeClick Media; while our main area of expertise is technical development, we like to be able to track traffic engaging with the platforms we build and show clients what their hard-earned cash has brought them.

Part of this service involves looking at devices and how user engagement differs across the many handheld devices available from Apple, Samsung and other giants.

Apple devices feature far more often than other devices, as you can see below:

As well as claiming 67% of all mobile traffic, users engage well with the Apple iPhone and iPad.

The strange thing is that this contradicts the increasing volume of Samsung sales compared to Apple. In fact, Samsung overtook Apple in the first quarter of 2017. After the underwhelming performance of Samsung’s last offering, users are anticipating the Galaxy S8 eagerly and reviewers are saying it has better features than the iPhone 7.

The tide is most certainly turning and may signify a reversal in fortunes for Apple.

Q3 of 2017 will be the biggest battleground for the two brands as they strive to engage user interest.

Who knows, maybe next year will see the Samsung devices scoring top of the paid search volume lists.
